But a brief, disastrous relationship with gorgeous "investment counselor" con man Reddy has costs her nearly all her worldly possessions. All that's left is the ramshackle s motel on Tybee Island, "a drinking village with a fishing problem. But all it takes is one Reddy sighting in Fort Lauderdale for BeBe to drop everything and haul her hastily assembled posse south to participate in a somewhat outside-the-law sting. With a little luck, BeBe might get her fortune back, Harry who's looking hunkier every day might get his boat back, and Reddy might get the prison stripes he so richly deserves. Andrews lays on lots of Savannah atmosphere and Southern charm. Would you like to tell us about a lower price?
It's a very good author that makes you feel, really feel the same emotions. It has crazy characters like the Grandparents, a wonderful best friend, and yes romance.
Frequently bought together
All these come together for a very delightful read. CAN'T wait to read her next book, this was just that good. I recommend it to everyone who wants to laugh outloud, be sad, angry, hopeful and come to terms with what is truly important in life. I especially got a huge kick and laugh in the beginning when she put an object thru the mail slot at her ex boyfriend s - read the book!!!!

This story was just as good, if not better. Loudermilk owns one of the most successful and trendy restaurants in Savannah, as well as a number of rental properties. They become an item almost immediately. When her life becomes complicated by the hospitalization of her grandmother, Millbanks an investment banker starts taking over the care of her properties.
Before she knows what is happening, Millbanks has disappeared and she is told by the police that he is a con-artist. Not only that, but he has swindled Loudermilk out of almost everything she owned including her house and all her possessions. The only property she is left with besides her restaurant which she can no longer afford to operate is a dilapidated set of beach cottages on Tybee Island. Millbanks used her money to buy The Breeze Inn, but didn't get a chance to liquidate the property before he had to leave Savannah.
At first, Loudermilk is unsure of what to do with The Breeze Inn. She can sell the property for a small fortunate to a developer. But finding herself homeless, she decides to renovate the cottages and make one of them her home with the help of caretaker Harry and with Weezie's vintage furniture. She also hatches a plot to find Millbanks and to get her money back. This escapade is a hoot and involves Weezie, Harry and Granddaddy Loudermilk.
Andrews' books are always fun, but they also come with a message. In Savannah Breeze, we learn that sometimes we find love in the most unlikely places. Material possessions are way over-rated in bringing us happiness. And sometimes what you think might be a personal catastrophe can actually turn out to be a good thing.
I have already purchased another Andrews' book, Blue Christmas--she's that good. Absolutely love this book! So easy to read, funny and captivating!
A must read for sure! Great characters! I randomly came across this book while on vacation 2 months ago. I gave it a try and now I am on my third Mary Kay Andrews book! See all reviews. With an office romance building, a decades-old missing persons case re-opened, and a cottage in rehab, one thing is for sure at Sunset Beach: Sunset Beach is a compelling ride, full of Mary Kay Andrews' signature wit, heart, and charm.
Now Greer has been given one more chance—a shot at finding the perfect undiscovered beach town for a big budget movie. She zeroes in on a sleepy Florida panhandle town. There's one motel, a marina, a long stretch of pristine beach and an old fishing pier with a community casino—which will be perfect for the film's climax—when the bad guys blow it up in an all-out assault on the townspeople.
Greer slips into town and is ecstatic to find the last unspoilt patch of the Florida gulf coast. She takes a room at the only motel in town, and starts working her charm. However, she finds a formidable obstacle in the town mayor, Eben Thinadeaux.
Eben is a born-again environmentalist who's seen huge damage done to the town by a huge paper company. The bay has only recently been re-born, a fishing industry has sprung up, and Eben has no intention of letting anybody screw with his town again. The only problem is that he finds Greer way too attractive for his own good, and knows that her motivation is in direct conflict with his. Will true love find a foothold in this small beach town before it's too late and disaster strikes? The incomparable Mary Kay offers heaping portions of humor, heart, and sass that fans of Fannie Flagg, Jennifer Crusie, Adriana Trigiani, Emily Giffin, and the Sweet Potato Queens simply will not be able to resist, as the winner-take-all cooking competition gets intense, especially when love ups the ante.

The romance of the story seemed lacking, maybe it was just because they were pretty wishy-washy and only kind sorta made up at the end.
From reading the synopsis of the next book it's more about BeBe. While this was a neat quick read I doubt I'll pick up the next one. View 1 comment. I will go to amazing lengths to find the perfect audio book.
I listen when I am driving for work and I usually want something light, humorous and with a bit of mystery. Sometimes I will listen for awhile to something and then decide it takes too much concentration and I have to quit.
Savannah Blues was perfect. It took me awhile to get into the story, but once I accepted the premises that Mary Kay Andrews was going with, I was hooked. Weezie Foley is a picker. She knows what antiques people will b I will go to amazing lengths to find the perfect audio book. She knows what antiques people will buy and she will go to great lengths to find what people want. She will even go to funerals to check out the possibilities. This is where this book starts - Weezie and her uncle visit a prospective estate sale where she finds the perfect antique.
This book is not for hard core mystery readers. There are other important elements of the story that they might find distracting.
But if you like Savannah; learning a bit about antiques and want romance in your books - this is the one for you.
Jun 28, Michelle rated it really liked it Shelves: The style and characters reminded me of Janet Evanovich and Stephanie Plum. It took a few minutes to get into this new series New to me , but I warmed up pretty quickly to it.
Looking forward to the next one. View 2 comments. I first read Savannah Blues in the mids. It's such a fun read, then and now in I adore the second book, Savannah Breeze, even more. I find that mentality annoying and limiting as a southerner myself. It's purely personal and not that big a deal. Savannah Blues is a fun story, with wacky shenanigans and a neat little murder mystery.
Weez I first read Savannah Blues in the mids. Daniel, thr hot ex-boyfriend, ex-Marine, beachy, temperamental chef was constantly exasperated and growly, and I loved it.
Mary Kay Andrews
I noticed a stronger attachment this time around to Weezie's uncle James and his boyfriend Jonathan. They were two safe harbors in the sea of crazy that seems to be Savannah. The first time I read Savannah Blues, it was an easy 5 stars for me. This time around, I'd go with a strong 4 stars. Sentimentality has me keeping my original rating.
I definitely recommend Savannah Blues for anyone looking for a good time with two crazy southern women. Jul 09, Jane Stewart rated it liked it Shelves: The first two-thirds were good.
The last third kind of dragged. It was pretty good - a lot of interesting characters. Someone is murdered early in the story which gets solved by the end. There is an on and off romance for Weezie an The first two-thirds were good.

There is an on and off romance for Weezie and Daniel a chef. The ending was too fast. I wanted to see more of the romantic relationship. One chapter was Weezie first person, the next chapter was third person. It was jarring. I would have preferred everything 3rd person. Narrative mode: Story length: Swearing language: Sexual content: This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. All of the things Bebe did for her, but she mentions that.. Weezie couldn't even share a cake when Bebe had just helped her out of jail, took her in when needed, and brought groceries, etc.?
Just one example of why I could not bring myself to like the main character. The story was mildly entertaining, but I kept getting annoyed by too many things to give it more than 2 stars. Feb 02, Christine Ceresa rated it really liked it. I was on vacation with girlfriends on Tybee Island when we stumbled upon a lovely shop, Seaside Sisters, and Mary Kay Andrews was there signing books.
Although I heard of her, I never read her books. After chatting with her for a bit I was delighted to purchase and have her sign a small collection for me. Not my usual psychological thriller, but a delightful and enjoyable read. Apr 26, Amy rated it it was amazing. What a delightful and entertaining "listen".. I wanted something Southern for my drive and I absolutely loved this one. My only mistake was not borrowing the next one in the series for my drive back!
The book had everything: I am somewhat new to audiobooks and the narrator was excellent, with her lowcountry southern accent to capture the essence of the book. Das ist nicht mein Thema. Und es wird auch nicht interessant vermittelt. Jetzt nach 3,5 Std.
Scheint es was zu werden. I wanted to like this book. Andrews creates a great setting with a lot of fun characters. I probably would have stopped reading the book if it wasn't for this. But her plot jumped all over the place and I struggled with some of the plots because they seemed a little close minded.
I couldn't tell if it was the charcters "voice" or the authors, but it didn't work for me. It is a testament to her writing that I kept I wanted to like this book. It is a testament to her writing that I kept reading even though I wasn't fond of the main characters choices. I am not sure how to classify this book, it read like a romance, had some mystery elements, also chick lit.
I have heard Savannah Breeze is much better, so will give that a shot because I really did like the world she created in Savannah. While the book was readable and I did not have any trouble going back to it night after night, I found it to be poorly written.
Maybe I'm getting jaded but I don't think so. I've enjoyed other books with simple plotlines and 1 dimensional characters. The book is presented as the story of a woman who has huge problems and needs to contend with her incredibly awful family. I didin't see that at all. Weezie and what a really stupid name by the way had very normal issue to deal with, newly divorce While the book was readable and I did not have any trouble going back to it night after night, I found it to be poorly written.
Weezie and what a really stupid name by the way had very normal issue to deal with, newly divorced, no romantic social life, limited funds to work with, a job that she gets no credit for completing competently.
So what? Welcome to everyone else's world. Her family problems?
