Spence and Sage's story is even better. With Her Hometown Hero Ms. Anne takes a reader through the journey of two doctors as they reconnect and discover something special.
Along the way they endure matchmaking friends and family, insecurities and career obstacles. Sage is a smart person that has allowed life experiences to past her by. Spence has a large capacity for love but is scared to pursue a chance at happiness.
Like every story there are moments that make you smile and others that break your heart. However, the true test of an exceptional read is that it leaves you wanting more.
This book and series does just that. Received an ARC for an honest review. This story had every thing sadness, joy, love, artfulness and quite a few laughs especially between the two girls, Sage and Grace. I thought the way Spence found out what his father had done was priceless, as was the relationship between Spence and Sage. With one Whitman brother settled, the matchmaking seniors have set their sights on Spence and they have the perfect match for him - Sage Banks.
With some creative manipulation, both Spence and Sage end up working at the hospital in Sterling, with Spence as Sage's trainer during her residency. Sage had a major crush on Spence when she was much younger and still bears him a grudge for not returning her feelings, so their relationship is pretty much a tempestuous one from day one. Spence can barely remember the young Sage who professed her love for him but this Sage is very distracting and he's very much interested in getting to know her and even her hostility towards him isn't going to deter him.
Their bickering was annoying and long and he came across as arrogant a few times. Even when he tried to romance Sage with the gifts and flowers, the motions, while admittedly cheesy and sweet, felt a bit unrealistic.
Her Hometown Hero
What redeemed this book for me was the ease with which Spence admitted to his feelings for Sage and the fact that even when he found out about the matchmaking, it did not lessen how he felt for her.
This installment of Unexpected Heroes was another fun read. Although, I have to tell you that I was torn on rating this book. It was a fun read. However, there is a good some angst that I thought was unnecessary. The worst part was there were cliches and corny comments after the next. I found myself rolling my eyes but smiling at the sweet gestures. It was funny and so very romantic. Spence was determined to woo Sage and woo her he did.
Her Hometown Hero (Unexpected Heroes, #2) by Melody Anne
Flowers, flirting, and persistence. He was cocky and self-absorbed though he was a good physician but in the end, he won my heart with his determination. Her Hometown Hero is not my favorite of the series but I enjoyed it well enough. Usually when you read a series of books you feel you have to start from the first book and that may hold you back from reading them. This is not the case with the books by Melody Anne. She writes her books in a way that you can follow the set up process of the book but each story is a definite stand alone.
I like that as you do not feel lost in the storyline. This story is a typical romance storyline but the difference is that the guy is the smitten one and has to work hard for the girl.
It is a Usually when you read a series of books you feel you have to start from the first book and that may hold you back from reading them. It is a sweet way to show the development of the relationship and that he truly is committed although Spence started off on shaky ground.
I do have to say that I loved the thoughtful methods that Spence used to get his girl once he decided that she was the one. Definitely creative! For a feel good read that will remind you of your memorable romances, you have to check out this book.
Easy, breezy, fun, and a great way to spend the afternoon! Melody Anne knows how to create a lovely romance novel that will take you away. Read more at http: Jun 21, Lindsay rated it really liked it. Bit expensive, not sure if I want to pay that much for this????? Jun 07, Ann Lorz rated it liked it Shelves: This is a enjoyable story. I enjoy the small town feel of it and the wonderful characters. At times it did drag slightly but picked up quickly. A nice summer read. Jul 16, Sandra Cunningham rated it really liked it.
It was simple, and it was sweet. He was telling the world that she was worth the risk. He was telling her this was forever. She was through analyzing this, through thinking it over. Sometimes, as her grandmother said, you have to take a leap of faith. Their friends and family continued singing as he returned her kiss.
I just want you to be my wife. I enjoyed listening to the story. It's characters draw you in and keep you until the last word is complete. The characters are, for the most part likeable if not full of themselves as in Dr. Spence Whitman. Sage has her own issues in this but it comes out differently. She turns it into stubborn pride. It all comes down to getting out of the way of themselves and facing their feelings. I took a star away because of accuracy. I am not a medical professional but even I knew some of the details were I enjoyed listening to the story.
I am not a medical professional but even I knew some of the details were impossibilities. Yes, this is a fictional story but it takes place in the real world.
Some research is in order before presenting it in such a way. Rebecca Estrella narrated. I am coming to not liking either her or the direction she was given in the narration. At times it is stilted. Through the majority of the story when a name is said, it is emphasized by pausing just the tiniest bit.
It is driving me up a wall. Jan 28, Elisa Hordon rated it it was amazing. Sage has always focused on her studies but will she be able to keep her focus when Spence Whitman comes barreling back into her life and starts shaking things up. Not the worst romance ever but the ending was the weakest mess of indecision and just not good. Epic love story. Loved this series and every character in it. If a woman tells you no, then she means no. Pursuing a woman who constantly rejects you is not romantic or sexy, it's harassment. Sage Banks had a huge crush on Spence Whitman as a young girl. But when she revealed her feelings for him, he dismissed her. Now, she's an adult and a physician who's in the process of choosing a residency program. She realizes to late that Spence works there and he's her new boss. Spence Whitman is very lucky in the female department.
He's smart, rich and hand Sage Banks had a huge crush on Spence Whitman as a young girl. He's smart, rich and handsome. He never had to fight for a woman's attention before. She becomes a dare to him. One that he wants to win. Sage lost her parents and grandfather in an instant.
She worked hard to become a doctor and going back home to do her residency made her feel like she was settling. However, she will do anything for her grandmother. Her only living relative. He's one of the adopted children who were saved by Martin. Jackson and Camden are the other two adopted siblings. All the brothers have had a hard time trusting people. Spence is not the exception. At first, Sage becomes a challenge for him but after a while he realizes he's developing feelings for her.
In the beginning, I wasn't too fond of Spence. As the book progressed I started rooting for him when he started wooing her. The thoughtful gifts were sweet. He was a man on a mission to get Sage to trust him and let him into her heart.
Spence had no problem asking his family or friends for help when he needed some. I understood why Sage guarded her heart in such a way. Spence hurt her feelings. He was her first crush and he dismissed her. I just wished she didn't push him away so many times. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Love is scary because when we love someone, we fear losing them.
If we give ourselves over to love, we win—we always will win. Spence is a well-known and talented surgeon, based in Seattle but spending a portion of his time near his father and brothers in Montana. When he first meets Sage, he is instantly attracted to her and thinks they could have one great night together. The last thing she expects or wants is to run into the guy she loved all through her adolescence and humiliated herself at 16 by confessing her crush and being rejected.
So, why does he make her feel like that love-struck teenager so once was? Only, with a grown up desire. When Spence puts his focus on her, she is adamant that she will stay away from the playboy. She weakens eventually, but she gets burned, then when things are once again looking up, she runs. I felt so bad for Spence. Sage is a sweet character, hard-working, determined, a great friend and granddaughter, but in my opinion, she made Spence chase her way too hard.
Other than that, I loved the book. Spence is insanely dreamy and the chemistry between those two is smoking. It actually made me want to go back and re-read the Andersen and Storm books.
Another success by Melody Anne! Feb 28, Kellie rated it it was ok. I just could not feel the love these characters were supposed to have and quite frankly I didn't like either of them as individuals most of the time to be honest. Some of their banter was fun and entertaining So I didn't understand its place in the story I also seemed to miss the part where Sage wanted to find her Prince Charming.
I thought she wasn't looking for one and was all about her career Sage seemed to hit the nail on the head when she called him out on trying to buy her love I was also lost on the whole hot tub debacle and what happened after that How many times is Sage going to let Spence reject her?
For such a strong, smart, independent woman Sage allows herself to treated like a tool and is willing to come back for more again and again. Then when Spence introduced Sage as his "friend", sends her home alone while he hangs out with another woman and does't contact her when he says he will I felt like I missed a few chapters!
Which is basically how I felt about most of the book I am looking forward to the next book I am really intrigued about what is going on with Grace and the histroy between her and Cam. I also hope that we find out just what is going on with Martin and his ladies! Hopefully I won't be left feeling like I only got part of the story with that book too! Jun 03, Avid rated it really liked it. This book is second in a the Unexpected Heroes series and that series is a spin off from the Billionaire Bachelors series.
I have not read any of these books, yet I was not lost in reading this book and it could be a standalone book. Unknown to them, They are being set up by a senior citizen matchmaking group that incl I received an ARC of this book from Goodreads Firstreads program in exchange for an honest review.
Unknown to them, They are being set up by a senior citizen matchmaking group that includes Sage's grandmother Bethel and Spence's father. This was a pretty good book, but I agree that the main characters were at times irriating. Sage is a twenty six your old virgin who treats Spence rudely when she first sees him in the hospital as he is her treating doctor after she has a car accident.
She is treating him rudely because when she was sixteen she told twenty four year old Spence that she loved him and he kindly rejected her. She even admits that nothing could have come of this admission. I don't think a relationship at that age is legal!
I was also scratching my head at her anger when she found out about the matchmakers and that Spence knew before she knew. It was mentioned repeatedly how Sage doesn't take care of herself despite being a doctor. Her diet and some symptoms made me think that she'd have a disease, but this seems to have been dropped.
It seems out of place in this book. Maybe it will come up in another book in the series. Spence at times seems overly confident and it seems Sage's rejection of him makes him want to persue her even more. He can't wrap his mind around a woman not falling to her knees for him.
He does seem to respect her especially professionally. Yet his low point was not really taking her v-card. Spence goes all out to win her after that when his father gives him romance advice.
The sex scenes are not too explicit or numberous. The subjects of the next book are Grace and Camden and they get some time in the book to set the scene for the next book. There are no discussion topics on this book yet.
